hallo alle zusammen, wie versprochen bin ich immer noch am ball und verfolge auch weiterhin die diskussion. hier erstmal der artikel auf den sich nigel im maerz 04 bezog: "Salawa! (added Feb 97) Stories have appeared on the ANE mailing list about a strange animal in the Sohag/Luxor area. I can add this: The animal is called a Salawa. There is a Salawa Information Centre in Armant, which was visited by John and Debbie Darnell from Chicago House, and they acquired some photos, which I saw. Apparently several have been killed, but at least one was caught, although how long it would survive is debatable. It is like a dog with a heavier than usual muzzle and longer ears. It isn't a hyaena, but comparisons have been made with the Seth animal. Rumours are circulating that it has eaten people etc, although these are almost certainly exaggerated. Articles about it appeared in the local press. One idea was that it is an animal which usually is found further out in the desert, but human actions in the desert, like making probes for the suggested Aswan-Oases canal, may have caused it to come closer to the Valley. Nigel Strudwick 20 January 97 updated 19 February 1997 (http://www.newton.cam.ac.uk/egypt/lxr96/Luxor96.html) heute fand ich folgendes dazu: "Strange attacks AFTER several years of quiet, the sala'wa, an obscure species of wild animals that allegedly look like hyenas, are causing panic again. Last Sunday, the animals reportedly attacked and bit nearly 113 Alexandria residents. The injured were taken with serious wounds to their eyes, ears and arms to Ras Al-Tin hospital, where they received vaccinations against rabies. Hospital officials were quoted as saying that with the exception of three cases in serious condition, the rest of the injured had been treated. In spite of testimonies by the injured, officials denied that the attacks were committed by sala'awas ; instead, they said the culprits were wild dogs. Security bodies are still searching for the animals. Similar beasts had previously attacked inhabitants in Armant -- a town on the east bank of the Nile 500km south of Cairo -- killing three, and injuring dozens. Several other incidents were reported in other areas in Cairo at the time. Those animals had been shot dead by both inhabitants and policemen.
