Zitat:
"The author, studying the documents concerning the architect Maya, first mentions in passing an architect of this name from el-Kab, who cannot be identical with Horemheb's architect but may perhaps have been his father. He then lists the documents of the 'Theban Maya', one of which (the royal cubit of Turin) actually does not mention him at all, and adds three possible occurrences from the Speos of el-Silsila. Then a list is drawn up of the documents of the 'Memphite Maya', among which the Leiden statues. From comparison of the titles and the mothers and other evidence the author concludes that there were two Maya's, the later one in Memphis under Ramses II. In the last section the author discusses the alleged persecution of the Theban Maya, arguing that the name was only destroyed in el-Silsila during the XIXth Dynasty, possibly because of the connections of Maya with el Amarna."
"... The author subsequently discusses ... the question whether he is identical with the fan-bearer on the right hand of the king May from el-Amarna, for which Schneider adduces arguments." (AEB) |
| Auch Erhart Graefe, Maya, Architekt des Haremhab -IV-, GM, Heft 16, S. 9-15 (1975) sprach sich für die Theorie "ein Maja" aus: Zitat:
"A reply to Hari's contention that the Maya who built a tomb in Thebes is not identical with the Memphite Maya whom he dates to the Ramesside Period (AEB 74.0287). The author points out that there is no clear proof for the occurrence of Haremhab's name on any of the fragments from the Memphite tomb, and that the names of the parents suggest that both Mayas may be identical after all." Ebenso wandte sich Amin A.M.A. Amer, A Further Note on Maya, Orientalia, Bd. 55, S.171-173 (1986) gegen "zwei Majas": Zitat:
"Hari's assertion (AEB 74.0287) that there were two Mayas, both bearing the title of treasurer and chief of works, cannot be substantiated. Moreover, the idea of one Maya presents fewer problems, as is shown by a discussion of Maya's titles and of possible dates for the Asiatic campaign from which he got the Asiatic prisoners in his household. A date of about year 10 of Horemheb is argued for this campaign. Maya can thus be credited with the erection of Pylons II, IX and X and their courts at Karnak, in addition to being responsible for three royal tombs, two royal burials, and probably the corresponding funerary temples."
