Barta selber bewertet in einer email an EEF die Entdeckung als wichtig, aber nicht spektakulär:
Er schreibt dort:
This year we were able to sample three squares 10 x 10 m. They show traces of mudbrick
structures and vats. More must be done, of course, in the future. The
pottery found features some Meidum ware and beer jars, most of the sherds
originating from low biconical stands, storage vessels and some strange
double-cup sets. The site is called Gard el Abiad and is situated in the
oasis of El Hayez some 54 kms south of Baharia. The site lies not far from
the eastern scarp descent, probably on the shore of what was a holocene
lake. We may only speculated if this was a station used by the caravans
heading further to the west deep into the Western desert or part of a larger
permanent settlement or both. In my view, it is not spectacular but
important site.
